The secondhand humanoid market is growing fast — and so is the risk of buying someone else's problems. A pre-purchase inspection is a professional evaluation of a used robot before money changes hands: mechanical health, battery condition, actuator wear, sensor function, and software/firmware state.

The inspection typically takes 1–2 hours and produces a written report: what's healthy, what's worn, what's likely to need replacement soon, and a fair-value assessment. For robots in the $10,000+ range, it's the cheapest insurance you can buy — one avoided bad purchase pays for dozens of inspections.

If the seller won't allow an inspection, treat that as information. Legitimate sellers welcome it.

Common questions

How much does an inspection cost?

Typically a few hundred dollars — a fraction of the purchase price. Complex or large robots can run higher.

Can the inspection happen remotely?

A video walkthrough catches obvious issues, but the real value is hands-on: joint play, battery testing, and motion validation need physical access.

What if the robot is in another city?

We can often coordinate with a technician near the seller — mention the location when you request.
